          What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a complementary therapy, which works on the feet to help heal the whole person, not just the presenting symptoms.  It can be used to help restore and maintain the body's natural equilibrium.  This gentle therapy encourages the body to work naturally to restore it's own healthy balance.

Reflexology is suitable for all ages and may bring relief from a wide range of acute and chronic conditions.  It has been shown to be effective for; back pain, migraine, infertility, arthritis, sleep disorders, sports injuries, hormonal imbalances, digestive disorders and stress-related conditions.

While many people use reflexology as a way of relaxing the mind and body and counteracting stress, at the same time, many doctors, consultants and other health care professionals recognise reflexology as a well established, respected and effective therapy.  Reflexology helps us to cope on  a physical, mental and emotional level, encouraging us to heal and maintain health in all areas of our lives.

Reflexologists do not claim to cure, diagnose or prescribe.

The origins of modern reflexology can be traced back to ancient Egyptian inscriptions found in the physicians tomb at Ankhmahor in Sakkara.  They appear to  depict hand and foot reflexology.

A translation of the accompanying hieroglyphics reads;

'Don’t hurt me.' The practitioner’s reply; 'I shall act so you praise me.'

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Reflexology painful?
Reflexology can be extremely relaxing, however if there is a part of the body that is unbalanced, the corresponding reflex point may feel sore or tender it is worked to rebalance the area. If at any time you find the treatment painful, you should let the therapist know as it is important that they work within your comfort-zone.

Can Reflexology make me feel worse?
Occasionally, what is known as a 'healing crisis' can occur. When an imbalance is found, a temporary worsening of symptoms can be experienced, however this is normal and is an indication that the treatment is working and the healing process is beginning.

Is Reflexology ticklish?
No.  A professional Reflexologist holds and works the feet with a firm pressure which is not ticklish.

What should I wear?
Although only the shoes and socks are removed for a treatment , you will be more comfortable if you wear  loose clothing.
