Mid Wales is renowned in birdwatching circles as an
area with a great variety of birds. The count for this area is 121
species.
Three reserves are close by,
Cors Caron,
RSPB Gwenffrwd-Dinas and
RSPB Ynys-hir.
If your interest lies with the Red Kite, then the
Tregaron Kite Centre
has information about them and wildlife in this area. Kite feeding
is carried out on Cors Caron during winter months only, at 2:00pm. You can
observe this from the road bridge on the A485 (Tregaron to Aberystwyth road)
about 1 mile outside Tregaron.
Alternatively,
Nant-Yr-Arian Forest Visitor Centre
at Ponterwyd near Aberystwyth feed the Red Kites daily
throughout the year at 3:00pm summertime/2:00pm wintertime. This is a
spectacular bird table, both in its setting and the number of Red kites
swooping to feed at the same time.
